'53two' is Manchester’s, biggest and most versatile Arts Venue, managed by Manchester Actors’ Platform. Spanning two of Deansgate’s famous tunnels, the venue is made up of two separate components; ‘53’ & ‘two’. The venue is operated primarily as a theatre and cafe, with the space also offering room for exhibitions, gigs, events, celebrations, rehearsals, classes, conferences, banquets, weddings and more.
'53two' is operated as a charity and once running costs have been met, actors and creatives paid, profit will be held in a 'pot'. At regular intervals, the sum or portions thereof will be donated to upcoming artists, actors and/or musicians as a bursary to train, record or develop their work.
The smaller of the two spaces; this provides our second performance/workshop space. 'The Pod' was built within the arch itelf and offers a 50 seater black box space with tiered seating and it's own bottle bar.
We will use this space to support and subsidise the main house with smaller performances, stand-up, intimate spoken word events and for auditions, classroom work and workshops.
The space has it's own entrance and, with it's own bar, can work independently from the main house in 'two' and provide an even greater range and diversity for potential events and smaller productions. The studio space is unlike any other venue in Manchester, combining an outdoor style feel and a purpose built 'box' designed entirely for purpose and to envelope the audience into an immersive world inside the arches beneath Manchester Central.
The larger and even more versatile space. Predominantly a theatre space, we use removable seating and seating blocks allowing the space to be adapted to suit all types of events from a 150 seat theatre to an open, blank exhibition hall or banqueting suite. Larger bands & gigs, large corporate events, indoor markets, indoor skating rinks, a wedding venue, launch nights, banquets and more. We will also install a cinema screen for evenings of immersive cinema, sing-along nights and to enable us to host private screenings/awards ceremonies.
Alongside the larger theatre space is a perfectly sized ‘studio’ space, which, when needed, would work as the reception/bar area for theatre-goers, but with simple curtains/dividers, would function as a perfect class room, meeting room, small events space and, of course,
a studio theatre for smaller, more intimate productions.
